A mirror is most effective when it reflects something worth seeing. In a compact home, that may be daylight, a calm wall, a long view, or the part of the room you want to feel more present.
Angle toward the window view
Place a mirror on the wall beside or across from a window after checking the reflection throughout the day. The goal is to spread light and a pleasing view, not direct glare toward seating or screens.
Extend the entry sightline
A vertical mirror near the entrance can make a short hall feel longer and supports a useful final check. Position it so the first reflection is orderly and welcoming.
Use full height where it serves a task
A tall mirror near clothing storage reduces the need for a separate dressing zone. Secure leaning mirrors against tipping, especially in homes with children or pets.
Avoid multiplying the busiest shelf
A mirror opposite open storage doubles every visible object. If that wall offers the best light, simplify the reflected surface before choosing the final position.
Test the view with a small handheld mirror before hanging the larger piece. Move around the room and check what appears from the most-used seats and paths.
